A composition is the platform already configured for one kind of operation — its things, its words, its systems. You start here and change it, not from an empty model.
When something changes
Three things that arrive at a valve plant from outside
A distributor asks for 500 valves by a date; another order's bar arrives late; a certificate is withdrawn for steel already made into valves — three scenarios, with illustrative numbers, of where Forge is going. Each reaches only what it actually touches. Where the plant's own means run out, Forge says so and prepares the ways out, each with its price, for the person whose call it is — and the bins and the ERP each keep their own count.

The plan holds what should happen, the floor what happened, quality what was measured. Today somebody lines them up by hand, usually in a spreadsheet nobody else can read.

Materials and lots
Materials, lots and splits, with genealogy as real relationships rather than a reconstructed report.
Routings and operations
What the process says should happen, as a protocol that constrains — separate from the execution that carries it out.
The plant
Plant, line, cell, station and storage as walkable containment, so a question can cross levels.
Quality claims
Dispositions as claims with authorities and windows, so a hold, a release and a retest coexist without overwriting each other.
Real measurement
Readings carrying unit and quantity kind, checked against the specification rather than assumed to match it.
Source bindings
Planning, execution and quality systems each keeping their own version, bound where they describe the same thing.
